Cornwall’s Cosiest Recording Studio and Music Hub
Blue Satsuma is a creative space set up by Alfie and shared by like-minded musicians/artists on a farm in Constantine. Alfie has been collecting instruments, mics and recording gear since he was at school, so the space is now well stocked and ready for when inspiration strikes.
This space is an enormous part of my practise. It’s where I do all my important work, layering up acoustic instruments, co-ordinating rowdy Afrobeats, tuning, mixing and stirring sounds. Oh, and recording bands and artists! It’s a pretty collaborative space – maybe you’ve got a project we could get stuck into together?

As well as being home to all of Alfie’s collaborative (and some downright anti-social) pursuits, artists have booked the studio and hired Alfie as engineer and/or session musician for recording their own works. See what they have to say about the experience:

PLAYWRITER 2025
Playwriter are a 4-piece indie-rock band from Plymouth. They came to record their debut EP, “Everyday” in the Spring of 2025. They conquered 5 tracks in 2 days and mixed the EP themselves. Their heat-haze Rhodes and sizzling cymbals sounded like a dream across the farmyard.
“Going into the studio, the most important thing for us was to have a really honest and clear documentation of how we sounded at that moment as a band. It was all recorded live, together in a room at Blue Satsuma Studios in Constantine. We wanted the sound to feel clean and open, and not overly-produced or heavily compressed. When Tom and I came to mix, we kept things really simple and subtle. It’s been so nice to see people enjoying the songs, and we are so grateful to everybody who has bought a CD and streamed the songs.”

ELSPETH ANNE 2021
Elspeth came to record before I moved the studio out of my home. We spent a week recording her full length album, ‘Mercy Me’ with the help of my brother, Joe. I then mixed the album and Joe put the finishing production touches on the vocals. It was released November 25, 2022. It is her third studio album and is available to stream or purchase on Bandcamp.
“I had an amazing time recording my third solo album with Alfie & Joe at Blue Satsuma Studios. The studio is exactly the sort of space I love working in – homely and full of character, where creating music feels like part of daily life, not separate. Alfie helped with the arrangements of the songs, playing a huge range of instruments on most tracks. He brought not only a huge musical knowledge to the recording but a refreshing perspective on the overall feel of the songs. I found Alfie very relaxed and easy to work with, which made the process enjoyable and fun. I would definitely love to come back to record in future!”
